VACATING TENANT CHECKLIST


    Things To Do -


  • Cancel your direct debit rental payments
  • Redirect your mail to your new address
  • Ensure all your utilities accounts like electricity, gas water, internet are either cancelled or advised of your move (do not disconnect the power) - For a fast and easy transaction contact Fast Connect 0800 88 55 99 and they will organise the moving of all your services in one easy transaction so you don't have to.  And they do this for FREE.
  • Ensure all keys issued to you are returned (you will be charged for each key not returned)


    Cleaning Inside the Property -


  • Walls - please clean off any dirty marks, remove scuff marks, finger or food marks, etc.
  • Ceilings -please remove any cobwebs & clean off any mould or other marks
  • Light fittings - remove dust & any dead insects trapped inside
  • Ceiling fans - wipe fan blades & tops of fittings
  • Skirtings - wipe down with a damp cloth
  • Doors & Doorways - wipe off finger marks & any other removable marks;        wipe down screen doors
  • Windows - clean glass inside & out; also clean flyscreens, windowsills & runners
  • Stoves - perform a thorough clean of the stove including top, control display, knobs, panels, drip trays, grills, tray inserts, oven bottom, walls & oven roof    (be sure to read oven cleaner instructions carefully & use with caution)
  • Rangehood - clean pull-out filters & framework; wipe off any oil or grease
  • Kitchen cupboards & drawers - please clean thoroughly both inside & out
  • Toilet - clean the cistern, seat, bowl (inside & out) & around the base
  • Bathroom - clean the sink, mirror, cabinet, vanity unit & drawers, shower recess, glass screen & screen doors, bath & wall tiles; please ensure both the sink & the bath has a plug available
  • Laundry - clean both the inside & outside of the trough and ensure a plug is present
  • Tiling - clean all tiles & grouting in the kitchen, toilet, bathroom & laundry
  • Duct vents - clean vents & fan covers of any dust & dirt
  • Heat pumps - wipe down the outside & vacuum the filters
  • Curtains - wash any netting curtains (if curtains are visibly dusty or dirty, consider dry cleaning)
  • Blinds - wipe down the slats
  • Floors - Mop the floors thoroughly, ensuring you reach corners & hard to get areas


    Cleaning Outside the Property -


  • Lawns - mow & edge the lawn, removing any lawn clippings
  • Gardens - remove any compost, weeds, rubbish, leaves, twigs etc.
  • Guttering - remove dirt/sills & leaves
  • Rubbish - remove any rubbish that you have placed at the property,  checking behind sheds, under shrubs and trees
  • Paths & paved areas - sweep up & dispose of leaves etc.
  • Oil & Grease - check & clean carport & garage floors, paths and driveway
  • Cigarette butts - please pick up & remove


    This is to be used as a guide only.

    All other cleaning must be completed as required.


    If you prefer, your Property Manager can organise a professional cleaning &       

    gardening service to complete all of the above & the cost can be removed       

    from your bond.


If you're looking to vacate your property, the first thing is to check how many days notice you're required to give.  Your Tenancy Agreement will say whether you're on a periodic or fixed term tenancy and how much notice is required.  If you're unsure please call your property manager and they will let you know.


Next, we require written notice, either by letter or email.  This notice becomes effective from the date it is received (NOT the date you send it), so please confirm with your property manager that they have received it.


Once it's all approved and in motion, it's time to pack up your items and give the house and grounds a thorough clean.
